Job Description
SEHA Clinics is seeking a Specialist Family Medicine physician to provide specialist clinical care under the supervision of Consultant Physicians. The role involves diagnosing and treating patients according to established standards of best practice, supporting the supervision of junior medical staff, participating in multidisciplinary care, and contributing to quality improvement, clinical audit, research and education.
The Specialist will support the Consultant Physician in maintaining adequate medical coverage, participate in rotational out-of-hours on-call duties and ensure compliance with hospital, departmental and divisional policies, procedures and applicable SEHA requirements.
Responsibilities
Managerial & Administration
• Support and adhere to all hospital, departmental and divisional initiatives, policies and procedures.
• Support and participate in the organisation's performance management system, including peer review and productivity and utilisation review processes.
• Assist Consultant staff in ensuring adequate medical coverage within the Division at all times.
• Attend divisional meetings as invited.
• Support the reporting, investigation and response to untoward incidents.
• Undertake other administrative or clinical duties as requested by Consultant staff.
Clinical / Technical
• Under the supervision of the Consultant Physician, diagnose and treat patients according to established standards of best practice in Family Medicine.
• Assist the Consultant Physician in supervising junior medical staff and jointly assume responsibility for the care they provide.
• Comply with hospital policies relating to admissions, consultations, daily patient care, surgical procedures, discharge protocols, outpatient services and follow-up practices.
• Practise appropriate utilisation of organisational resources.
• Lead ward rounds and regularly reassess inpatient and outpatient cases in line with established best practice.
• Accurately document relevant clinical information clearly and in a timely manner.
• Regularly review investigation results and modify treatment as required.
• Liaise with other medical specialties and support services for additional clinical input.
• Participate actively in multidisciplinary meetings to plan effective, safe and holistic patient care.
• Ensure appropriate preparation of patients for procedures, including obtaining informed consent.
• Accept clinically appropriate referrals from the Emergency Department, primary care, other departments, specialty clinics, walk-in patients and other hospitals.
• Participate in and support the Consultant Physician in providing rotational out-of-hours on-call coverage, including evenings, nights, weekends and public holidays as required.
• Communicate clinical information to patients and their families or friends, with the patient's consent, in a timely manner.
• Maintain positive working relationships with staff and promote collaboration and a team-based approach to patient care.
• Perform other clinical responsibilities as assigned.
Quality & Safety
• Support quality improvement initiatives within the Division.
• Support a culture of regular clinical audit.
• Encourage the use of audit results to improve clinical practice.
• Support the reporting, investigation and response to untoward incidents.
Education & Research
• Promote and participate in clinical research and publication.
• Promote and assist in the instruction, guidance and supervision of junior medical staff.
• Keep abreast of relevant medical literature and the latest trends and technologies in the field.
• Participate in clinical research and publication.
Requirements
• Degree Level: Master's Degree.
• Specialist qualification in Family Medicine is required, with experience requirements dependent on the applicable qualification tier.
• Tier 1: No additional experience required after board certification.
• Tier 2: Minimum 2 years of clinical experience after qualification in an internationally accredited institute.
• UAE Nationals: No additional experience required after board certification.
• UAE Nationals and non-UAE Nationals enrolled in HAAD-accredited residency programmes: No experience required after board certification.
• Tier 3: Minimum 3 years of clinical experience as a Specialist after qualification in an internationally accredited institute.
